Crowns & Bridges
Crown and bridge restorations are used to restore teeth when the structural integrity of a tooth is compromised, or to take the place of missing teeth. In these procedures a tooth-shaped “cap” is placed over a tooth to restore its shape and size, enhance its strength, and improve its appearance.
Bridges and Crowns may be needed in the following situations:
  • Protect a weak or damaged tooth. This can be caused by tooth decay, which breaks down the toothʼs strength and integrity.
  • Cover a tooth with cracks. If a cracked tooth is not addressed quickly, the patient runs the risk of losing the tooth if the crack continues below the gum line.
  • Restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down.
  • Cover a dental implant
  • Cover and support a tooth with a large filling, where little natural tooth remains, preventing fractures
  • Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
  • Cover a severely discolored tooth
  • Make cosmetic modifications to teeth
While a crown covers a single existing tooth, a bridge is used to fill the space created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is one or more artificial teeth that are cemented into place using the teeth on either side of a missing tooth for support, replacing the missing tooth, both functionally and cosmetically.
Both crowns and bridges can offer a patient a very natural cosmetic solution as well as complete functionality.
